to CD using K3B then use a USB CD/DVD player/burner (the one I used to
make the CD).
But the messages say booting from Hard Disk, not your USB disk. That is

Have a look at loginctl reports to see if you can find a clue what is happening.
For example list sessions before and after the problem happens.
