Jonathan, I find it hard to believe that the not-readable text is a reason
for the panel to be opaque and not transparent and chameleonic - the
launcher itself is transparent and chameleonic and it has those tiny
arrows, yet they are still visible, not to mention that the Dash itself is

It does
Don't forget: another reason for not pushing transparency in addition to
yours is text. There is a lot of text in the menu bar and that text doesn't
play nice with cameleonic/transparent backgrounds. Hence why the indicators
should/do have a solid background as well.

It does blend with the titlebar and the dash when needed, however it

P.S. Transparent panel + panel opacity toggles also blends with the
titlebar :P

launcher/dash. I think it's good as it is right now i.e, blends with
the title bar when needed and also blends in with dash/launcher when
needed.
Also, the indicator menus need to be transparent too (look like HUD)
if this is cons
The thing Brandon is - how much time do you browse through indicator/menus?
If you are browsing over a 50% through them whilst you are on your
PC/laptop/netbook than having a full opaque panel would make sense. However
I find it hard to believe someone browses THAT much time through them :) If

I'd much rather have consistent looking menus than an always transparent
panel. The menus looking totally different than the panel would *really* bother
me.

The unity panel has several issues that have been existing since 11.04:
- The panel shadow is not a real proper GL drawn shadow, but rather a
.PNG that is being repeated right below the panel and that causes the
following issues:
- The higher the value of panel's opacity is, the smaller the p
