The Xorg driver in Jaunty supports both EXA and UXA AccelMethods, and
EXA was the default in Jaunty. Which one do you use for testing? In
later versions, only UXA is supported, so that should be chosen for the
testing as well.

Reopening, the crash is fixed with the patch but it turns out that the
colors are all wrong (just as Aaron wrote in his mail). I don't really
know why it worked well for me in my testing yesterday, but today the
colors are all wrong.
I think the best fix is to revert my patch and fix it in the xse
This patch for xserver-core fixed the crash for me. The colors are also
correct (when reverting the stub gamme_set back to NULL) because xorg
uses the old-sytle colormap code in this case.

I am also using karmic Koala with 2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2, and have the same
problem as Gray. I can not change the format to PAL.

I think your monitor was not recognized by Xorg. What model do you have? Attach
Xorg.0.log file with option "HorizSync 30.0-100.0" and without it.

I have the same issue. Used unetbootin usb flash drive to install 9.10.
Same thing happens in livecd now, first boot mouse buttons worked 90% of
installation now they don't work at all except right mouse button
randomly. Touchpad and external usb mouse do the same thing.

Adding to comment #45: update-manager was updated as of 01-05-10 but
didn't try install ati/amd graphic drivers. gksu 100% gives couldn't
grab mouse error also. Tried reinstalling libgksu2-0 but that didn't

Same issue here: "Assertion failed in

line: 53". It was due to RAM failures (frequency too high). When issue
was solved, not more such crash. Conclusion: run memtest86+ to be sure
it does not come from a RAM issue.

I can confirm the random freeze behavior with Ubuntu 9.10 on a Toshiba
10 Satellite, just freshly installed. Started googling the problem and

But note that the ubuntu-x-swat team does not maintain the gnome tools,
just the underlying bits. I'd encourage you to bring your feature ideas

Nvidia ION, Driver version 190.53, Ubuntu 9.10.
The only way I have got tearing to go away is add a section to xorg.conf
to disable compositing.

@Tormod Volden. I had a fellow at my LUG today having this issue. He has
an R200 based chip (Radeon Mobility 9000). This is an Ubuntu Karmic
Nebook install, all updates as of today.
The updated mesa from x-swat's x-updates did not solve the issue.
The only solution we found was to create an xorg.
No evtouch capable device found, if you are sure you have
an evtouch capable touchscreen, please mail the resulting file of the command

Update - I have tried with kernel 2.6.31-16 and parameter acpi=off and I was
unable to reproduce the bug for 3 days. I would say acpi fixes the issue.
Now, I have switched to kernel 2.6.31-17 and I will test again without acpi=off
(the default way) and I will let you know if I have more instabili
