I don't understand this bug or why it happened, but I don't experience
it anymore. Of course, I'm running ubuntu 12.04 so I don't know if it
is still present in later versions. I don't know what status to close
it under so maybe you could?

I just re-installed all the libc6 packages and the bug is gone. As I
said, I think what happened to my system during the upgrade process
might have caused this. When I saw your comment about the bug being
deeper than X I decided to re-install the libc6 packages and the bug is
now gone. I'm sorry
I'm truly sorry about this bug report. I had upgrade to precise a few
days ago, but the upgrade process crashed because I mistakenly tried to
cleanup the system /var partition because it was running out of disk
space. I had to run 'apt-get dist-upgrade -f' to get the install to
finish, but aperen

It turns out that I did upgrade the X packages to 1.9 (I was confused by
the 1.8.99... version number). I'm sorry Harry, your first suggestion
was right from the beginning. As far as the workaround, sadly, it
didn't work. I'm attaching the Xorg log in case it provides any useful
information. At
I could not go back to a previous kernel. Could someone at least tell
me if this is possibly a bug or something that I'm doing wrong (maybe
using wrong packages)?

I find it difficult to believe that I've done something wrong, since
I've just been updating my system regularly and the drivers were working
fine a few upgrades before this bug presented itself. I wonder what I'm
missing to get this fixed. Please, anyone have any idea?

Thanks again for trying to help Harry. The 173 packages don't work
either. I do have the latest grub packages and tried the changes you
suggested with no change using the current nvidia packages or the 173
ones.

I'm attaching a copy of the xorg log of the crash. Would anyone have

Hey Harry, thanks for the suggestions. I tried
uninstalling/reinstalling the nvidia-current package with no success. I
also tried to run the nvidia-xconfig tool, also unsuccessfully. I don't
think I'm using too recent xorg packages because I've just been updating

I've been willing to let this bug expire. Oddly enough though, I'm
