I have this problem as well on Natty x64 using Ubuntu Classic with no
effects on a Dell XPS 410. It has happened with Firefox, Thunderbird,
Terminal, Libreoffice, Evince, and Nautilus,. I have an Nvidia card
Seeing the same problem here with 280.13. Appears to be an infinite loop
in _nv012tls () from /usr/lib/nvidia-current/tls/libnvidia-tls.so.280.13
when exiting.

This is bizarre. I have the same problem with the nouveau driver. I
got around it by installing the experimental open source 3D driver. It
seems odd that two drivers have the same problem. I am also using
11.04.

Okay, attached the logs. Also did some testing - simulating high CPU
load doesn't trigger that behaviour. Loading the GPU also doesn't

I can confirm this bug on a Dell Vostro 3550 i5 processor thus integrated
graphics and discrete ATI. This is supposedly an Ubuntu Certified machine but
have been unable to locate any version that actually works on it. Currently
trying 11.10 all updates current as of August 4th 2011.

I've added PPA and installed nvidia-96 driver.
But XServer failed to start reporting:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to allocate/map the primary surface!
Looking to the Internet gives the solution - to add nopat option in GRUB kernel
loading string.
It helped. Now everything works fine!
I´ve got same problem. Problem is not releated to package xserver-xorg-
video-ati, I using integrated graphic card Intel. I can reproduce the
problem. Problem is not in Firefox, I using my own application and when
I scrolling in my application Xorg crashed:
