I did clean installs with the alternate iso, and two separate installs
produced the same result:
1. After install and first hard drive boot, let Synaptic do updates.
Booting immediately afterward left me at a terminal login, no X.
2. After install and first hard drive boot, activate nVidia driver

I managed to simulate the same behaviour also in Arch. It happened after I've
installed gnome-extra stuff. I also noticed that udev is eating like 5-15% of
CPU. I run the `udevadm monitor` and saw this:

Now tried this on a 32-bit installation, same computer. Still mangled.
:-(
Wonder if this proposed update to xorg is going to make a difference?

Is the login screen aligned ok? If the resolution changes after you
login, the misalignment is a "feature" of your monitor, and not a bug.

You have a poulsbo, which isn't supported on 9.10 so the system uses
vesa instead. It doesn't support such resolutions, so the checkbox app
should not file nonsense bugs against xorg.

Dear Thomas,
The "problem" is not with the meanings or descriptions of AllowTitleOps
(though a warning that "setting AllowWindowOps is insecure" is missing).
The problem is that
perl -e 'print "\e\]0;;bad-command;\a\e\[21t"'
should set the title (then maybe retrieve it); but that setting does n

I've already switched to Karmic and that problem no longer exists. It
seems as though the Intel / Compiz issue seems resolved as far as I can
see. I'm going to switch to Lucid, however as the USB transfer issue has
been unresolved since Jaunty.
