I have been trying to use gFTP with no success. It seems very prone to
crashing. Could some kind person suggest any other software that I

Thanks for your offer and, for me, as well as for lots of Ubuntu users
around the world, the most helpful thing would be to make a whole
selection of scanners work. This would enable those who have not yet
been able to change to 7.04 because of this problem do so and also,
maybe, save those who have converted going back to 6.10.

I must have a working scanner so could some kind person tell of a
scanner which positively works on 7.04. I would rather buy a new one
than downgrade to 6.10 or wait several months until the next version of

This sounds awfully risky. After all, I can solve my difficulty by
running normally using 2.6.20, batch the scanning that I need to do and
use 2.6.17. The way Ubuntu is it takes only a very short time to press
the button and wait for a reboot.

Yes the disc plays normally on a DVD player or Movieplayer or Avidemux.

This is not an actual proposal but, while those unfortunate people with

I hope that by the time Gimp 2.4 is released the plugins, where
necessary, will also be updated.
However, I am still puzzled. How can a package which I have removed
reappear all by itself?

Right or wrong it all sounds very reasonable and understandable,
know a dangerous thing to do), if I removed the Gimp
2.2.X folder from /var/cache/apt/archives/ would that cause any
problems?
