Hi Everyone,
Have just initialised our new batch of Toshiba laptops for our village
IT Group. These come with Microsoft Vista 'preinstalled' which has now
been completed. When I tried to use our Ubuntu 8.04 disc in Live User
mode, the laptop seemed to launch Ubuntu in the usual way, but part way

Hi
Is there an equivelent of a calender / personal information manager (so
I can store what I am doing at a time / date and get reminders) for
gnome as I am usign ubuntu,
Doing a search I know kde has one kpim, but I can't find anything for
gnome,

Evolution is preinstalled and does exactly this.

Before you all start hounding me, yes, I do understand that Creative
sound cards have practically no support in Ubuntu versions prior to
Karmic (which I'm told does have support for them).
I'll start from the very beginning :-)

I use gmail set up as an imap account along with thunderbird. I can access
via my home/work computers or via any convienient web browser. I've also got
an android phone with google which is configured to automatically sync my
email, contacts, calendar and todo lists.

I use Gmail with Gcal as it now has Google Docs enabled in which you can add
a document to an event and then send an email as well, in which you can then
add to Gtasks as well and works really quickly, the you can also send it to
your mobile at a set time, which is really useful!

I use Thunderbird, with Lightening attached and goosynch. It synchs all
my computers and it synchs to my phone, so I have everything on all
computers and phone that's both windows and Ubuntu.

I have been using the MS Exchange plugin for evolution for about 6 months,
since I began using Linux at work. However, since the organisation has changed
to Exchange 2007, I have been unable to as it isn't supported. I understand the
problem lies with the significant changes in the web

Just to point out the obvious, if you want something that is just on your
desktop, then go along with whatever you feel comfortable with.
However, if you want to be able to synch the various parts of the PIM, then
either follow the advice provided so far, remembering that by using G-Mail
Oh dear, the project seems to be manned by Trekkies! See the release names.

OK I am still working on this.
got as far today as:
sudo modprobe rt73
then a restart with it plugged in.
it booted up with the dongle alive (a first)
also found wireless networks in network-manager (a first)
but trying to connect and it just hangs whilst connecting... it never
gets anywhere.
