I tried the
"$ metacity --replace"
which produced some weird results at first, but resizing worked. But then I had
to re-enable compiz, and now with compiz back, the resizing seems to work.
Thanks also for the tip on ALT-mouse scroll wheel to resize. A useful thing to
remember if it fails agai

I had a look at various Compiz settings but could not find one that
would give me back window resizing when I disabled each setting and
tried resizing a window.
Any other suggestions?

I have been using Ubuntu 9.04 since it was released, but today I have
found that I can no longer resize any windows. I put my mouse cursor
over the bottom right corner, it changes to the resize symbol, I click
and drag, but nothing happens. I can maximise and restore windows, but

Hi all,
Good to hear lots of people are having no problems with karmic. Unfortnately
I've hit a big problem. I use two monitors as two separate X servers using a
geforce GTS8600 graphics card. This was working well under jaunty, but only one
screen is now supported under karmic.

thanks - but I checked that many times before I dared posting this
question. I also checked the screen brightness buttons and that I
plugged it in. :-)

Thanks Alan - I think you have solved it!
Looking through the bugs I found this:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+question/85648
Adding i915.modeset=0 to the boot options fixed it!
This is something that is mentioned in the beta release notes

do you get anything on screen as it boots? Does it get as far as the
login screen when you have it installed?
you could report a bug in xserver-xorg-video-intel
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel
there are probably clues in /var/log/Xorg.0.log as to what is going on.

Hi
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop and have been running 9.04
successfully since I bought it a couple of months ago.
I've upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 and I can no longer use it - the system
boots and gets to login screen, but since there is no display I can't
use it! I reinstalled 9.04 and do

Hi I just noticed now, fiddling round with my netbook, that the touchpad

find out how to get it working again.
Plus, I ugraded both my laptop and netbook. It seems its not the best

I torrented all of the ISOs (barring the DVD ones - although they're
probably still running right now) last night, and have them all on my
external HD. I have a *few* CDs, so I figured I'd burn the common ones
(like Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu) and have two DVDs each with all the
images for the i38

Hi Liam,
As with all things Free and Open Source, you have a lot of choices...
Do you stick with Samba between machines (as there are extensions in Samba
for a Samba client talking to a Samba server). Do you switch to the Fuse
module SSHFS between all your machines, automounting them only when yo

Hiya, I have been having the same problem, and I have tried everything
Cheers rob,
But what I was really looking for was a way to set up a network between my
laptop and my netbook without having to use samba, and cut the XP machine
out.
Because I know that Linux doesn't need to use samba to create a network
between two comps using Ubuntu, I just don't know how to set
9.04 connected to windows shares both on XP and Win 7.
Upgraded to 9.10 yesterday, all I get is the error" Cannot mount
location failed to retrieve share list from server"
Any body help on this?
