This is really odd. I have been trying to get everything set up like my
Wubi installation, in my VM. I think I have everything added for the
flash files, as per what I have on Wubi, but it wont play. What is even
more worrying is that I cannot get a google page to show, it shows a

Wow - great you got it working mate.

My guess is that the first two installations were actually fine, it's
just that you didn't take a snapshot of it etc.
If you need any help with Windows itself you are welcome
I dont know what happened there, but I tooka snapshot of the VM

it even has extras, which I assume must be from the Guest Additions. I

Hmm well that certainly is very strange. You might be better off
asking on the VirtualBox forums rather than this list if it fails to
work again.

I can't see how a VM could do that - it ain't what they do.
Sounds to me like your router is near death...

It was everything, it affected the Router. I couldnt get a connection. I
think it might have been something to do with the VM Network connector. I
have a feeling it changd the IP address, and I also think it might have
taken over the connection itself and made it default. I had no idea how to

Hi Norman
The router in itself should not be relevant to the OS you are using.
What is however is the wireless adapter you are using.
If you are not going to be changing that then you have no worries.

The Gadget Show recently ran a review of many routers. IIRC the D-Link

Router was the quickest to set up as well. Check the show's site out

I fear that my router will soon die and, as it is a number of years

words of wisdom they could cast in my direction. I am running Ubuntu

So the VM stopped working or just the VM? If it's the VM that lost
it's connection to the Internet then that's normal because of the
network drivers - just reboot it.
If it was the laptop itself then I do apologise!

Bit of a disaster, after installing the extras, the laptop stopped

Is there any point in doing this? I currently have installed 9.04 via
WUBI in Vista Home Premium.
Would there be any performance advantage (say) in removing Vista
completely and re-installing Ubuntu or is it just as good to stay with
what I have?

Hmm it shouldn't be on your desktop -are you referring to your Ubuntu
dtop or the VM one?
Open up the autorun.inf file in Notepad - it'll tell you which file is
meant to start up automatically (I can't for the life of me remember
which one it is).
If you need any more help let me know.

font can be found here:
http://www.newfonts.net/index.php?pa=show_font&id=130
extract the ttf file and copy into .fonts via:

You need to install the VirtualBox additions - it's in one of the

Thanks Guy,
I followed your second suggestion - using Live CD to examine Xorg.0.log.
I found the following error flag:

That was the only entry.
