What if any educational benefit does the older version have that the newer
version doesn't?

it indicate, there is deb package precompiled binary of pathan (probably

libpathan_2.0-1+dbxml228dapper1_i386.deb
for ubuntu 6.06
but I can not find it anywhere in the web by mysel
