This tweak worked so fine with me, easystroke started recognizing my
mouse gestures after following your code, and this is what I did.
(1) Quit easystroke
(2) $ xinput set-int-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" 'Device Enabled' 8 0
(3) Restarted easystroke again
of course my touchpad went off now

Importance:
I have the same problem with Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 32-bit, Nvidia latest
proprietary driver with an Geforce 8500 GT graphic card.
Flash videos run all slow when fullscreened.
I disabled compiz seemed to solve the issue, but of course lost all the
eye candy effects.
There must be some other solution.
Same error hear the occurs during display of one of the screen saver, as I have
them set to RANDOM.

Well I just restarted my desktop and the Pink screen showed up again. Stays
there with no output whatsoever so that I can tackle the issue. I had to
restart using recovery mode and ROOT gdm start to get the gnome running.

I have the same issue on my Natty 64-bit happened after I upgraded to kernel
2.6.38-10 generic.
I found the only work around is to start ubuntu in recovery mode (from grub)
and choose fsck (file system check) on next reboot was the way to start gui, or

I have the same issue with my newly installed ubuntu 10.10 64-bit. That was
never there with 10.04 32-bit.
on my x100e Thinkpad Lenovo, the lower (bottom) edge doesn't seem to move the
pointer besides horizontal scrolling is impossible.

Yes in fact to some extent it did. The whole surface area of the touch pad is
working but still horizontal scrolling is not functional. I can click the
checkbox in gpointing-device-settings but I can't maintain the scrolling speed.
it seems always revert back to zero.

This is my evtest output. what I did was:
1. clicked the LEFT touchpad button then
2. performed left to right strokes at the bottom part of the pad in an upward
fashion to about its half
3. clicked the RIGHT touchpad button then
4. stroked in the same manner but from right to left
5. clicked a bu

This issue stands. I can confirm with 100% certainty, that it is a
software problem and not a grapefruit juice mishap as Max mentioned.
Yes, the lower part is completely dead no motion of the cursor at all.
Both xev and evtest produce no events. This happens to me on ubuntu

Same thing here. After installing ubuntu 10.10 64-bit. Using a synaptic
touchpad, on a Lenovo X100e Thinkpad. Touchpad was working flawlessly on
