I tried both the latest Beta x64 ISO's for Desktop and for Server and
both end up failing.
They report that either the DVD/CD is bad -or- the Hard Disk is bad.
I've tried 2 different hard disks -- one was new and unformatted.

There's no complicated work here to prove the "Advanced Format" used by the
WD drives don't work.
Install the drive into a machine and try to install from an Ubuntu CD...
install eventually works but there are constant disk busy/time-out retry
errors occurring.

There is a really simple workaround till this is fixed.
This worked for me and let me compile xorgxrdp. Not sure what your use
case is but...
step 1
*$ sudo touch /usr/include/X11/fonts/fontutil.h*
This file is owned by *root:root*, with mode *0o644*.

But now the View menu only shows the option Graph.

I think your problem was the same mistake I made cloning a disk.
When you reinstall the new disk you need to create a new UUID for it and
then edit /etc/fstab and change the new disks UUID to that.
check:
$ more /etc/fstab
and see if you have a duplicate UUID listed

Thx but so far I and others are installing Ubuntu 16.04 root on zfs and it runs
ok.
I think I even included the zfsonlinux guide in the orig report.
I think the only real problem I've had is this issue with grub-pc not
parsing ZFS disks "by-id".

Just heard from a Reddit zfs thread inquery I made that the fix for grub
& zfs is aleady in 16.10 & will make it into 16.04 in perhaps a month..

- I changed to AC97 (shutdown vm and restarted it & verified it was now set to

variable either in the Host OS or the VM itself so just in case I did

Its not a bug but an unintentional side affect of using Clonezilla to
clone a primary drive.
Clonezilla does clone the primary drive properly but the new disk with
the cloned image retains the UUID's of the original drive.

The 15 Word .docx files were copied from a USB drive I use to transfer from
my business Win7 laptop via a USB3 cable to my Ubuntu 14.04 machine. For
those files I created a new directory in my ~/Desktop
and copied the files there.
with my file system.
Hopefully whatever is going on goes away/disappears with future updates to
14.04 as I know alot is going on prior the 17th.

NOTE - when I filed these 2 bugs for some reason Launchpad marked them
as Firefox related.
THEY ARE NOT... cheese, uvcview etc all have problems although lately I
have been able to uvcview to capture/display

I have a guess that both are related and possibly a cause of the move to
multi-arch and to Unity.
Multi-arch because it seems they are both affecting x64 users from what
I can see.
And Unity (at least for the webcam problems) because symptoms are less
pronounced if you switch from Unity to Unity

kernel upgrade also if I remember right.
