FYI, I do the workaround a little differently now than what's described
here. Instead of having a session start-up script, I renamed
/usr/bin/compiz to /usr/bin/compiz.shipped and then put the workaround
script in place of /usr/bin/compiz. So my /usr/bin/compiz looks like

I can confirm this bug. Note that it is not just a problem with custom
.gtkrc files, it occurs with regular themes too. For example, if you

Yes, pulseaudio is definitely at fault, but it may be brought on by
Flash. I recall that the issue is that Flash leaks ALSA handles or
something, which might contribute to resource exhaustion in Pulse, and
the error messages seems suggestive of that.

Just checked on Jaunty and it seems to be fixed. The focus transfer is
now only prevented if the focus stealing prevention level is set to Very
High. If it is though then Eclipse still ends up with keypresses going
nowhere, but that's an Eclipse bug.

I've been seeing the same thing on Jaunty. If Firefox is left open for a
day or so on, e.g., Hulu, then if I come back and try to use it it will
hang. Most other apps can recover from this state though b/c they just
reconnect to Pulse.

FYI, your private .deb fixed bug 234666 for me. However, I can also

Btw, I discovered that if I use Compiz's zoom feature to slightly zoom
in on the whole desktop, then I can go fullscreen in Flash and it will

I have two sound devices. One is an Intel 82801G (ICH7 Family) High
Definition Audio Controller. The other is an external USB device:
Creative Technology, Ltd SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit External SB0490. I
have snd_hda_intel and snd_usb_audio loaded, so that's probably their

I am unable to install the required dbgsym packages. They appear to have
a bad dependency version string:
$ sudo apt-get install firefox-3.0-dbgsym \
> xulrunner-1.9-dbgsym \
> libgtk2.0-0-dbg \
> libnss3-0d-dbgsym \
> libnspr4-0d-dbg \
> libpango1.0-0-dbg \
> libcair
This bug is not a crash, it is just an error that makes the program
exit. How can you get a backtrace for that?
