I am using 18.04 LTS with unity as a desktop.
I am facing the same issue and I found that CPU usage of process
`kworker/u16:5+e` becomes very high ~20% of 8 CPUs 4200MHz machine everytime I
switch between the workspaces.

Hi All,
The fix is found. It's the driver issue of the NVIDIA's graphics cards.
Go to software & updates, additional drivers tab, and select the proprietary
one provided by the NVIDIA, not Xorg one. Hope it helps!

In the original post, I was using the word cursor for two separate
things. I clearified this in the original post.
So by saying cursor, I meant a rectangular shape that blinks to indicate
where the text will be inserted.
