Yes. That is exactly what is happening.

It stops after a while (but I don't know exactly how many minues). I
would say 30min - till I close all the hterminal tabs.

It does not occur, if I open a new terminal window while it is
happening.

No, it only blinks rapidly when the mouse pointer is on the tab area.
When I move it way from there, blinking becomes normal (I assume
1/second)
