I experience lockups with Hardy release on BOTH my laptop (Toshiba
Satellite p205: atheros, intel 945) and desktop (atheros, nvidia). Both
were rock stable in Gutsy and back. The only thing in common is madwifi.
When it happens, the mouse, screen etc. is locked up. No screen garbage.

1) make a file named "99-hdd-spin-fix.sh". The important thing is starting with
"99".
2) make sure the file contains the following 2 lines (fix it if you have PATA
HDD):

VT switch OK (used to work 100% for me anyway), DRI OK, XV OK, suspend OK
hangs on resume with the screen off. Not sure if it has anything to do with

AFAIK modern drives are able to handle high temps just fine. Up to 75 C is OK.
More over, 2,5" HDDs produce max 2 wats of heat on idle spin, so unless you
keep the lead of your laptop closed and the HDD spinning overnight, you won't
have any heat problems.

Guys! Please pay attention to it. I have a crash error trace here in the

Reopening that: appeared again. This time I was able to capture the log with
more debug info.
A note: this bug is directly related to inability to scale video: when I launch
Skype video and it does not scale (1:1 on black background) I can say 100% that
it will crash when going to sleep in 5 mi

I tried Fedora 15 on a fresh HDD. Used default partitioning with an LVM
-- same problem, GRUB fails to boot me with the same symptoms. Fedora 15
too uses GRUB 0.99. Rolled back to Ubuntu 10.10 with GRUB 0.97 -- works
like a charm. IMO the problem is clearly somewhere in v0.97 < GRUB <=
v0.99

I too experience the issue.
I have been carrying my root+home+swap partitions from version to version no
problem until 10.10 and 11.04; Now I have to boot livecd first, then restart,
and boot from HDD.
Has anyone reported that to grub2 as a bug?

It only affects the Y mouse coordinate. I noticed that when it "happens" I can
only click the lower part of the button. In Chrome I have click slightly above
the hyperlinks. The problem is always gone after moving the window hosting the
