when the installer asked where to install grub, i erased (hd0) and the
installer automatically entered a default folder under the main file
tree. the installer should have an option to not install grub, as it
only took a few minutes to edit fedora's grub file to boot ubuntu.

like a BIOS flash from usb, or a BIOS flash from an eeprogrammer is our

Added Ralph´s PPA to my Mythbuntu media centre and installed BloGTK via
Synaptic. Opening BloGTK from Network menu didn´t work so entered
¨blogtk¨ in terminal and got a gtkhtml2 dependency error. Added python-
gtkhtml2 in Synaptic and tried blogtk from terminal again loaded fine!!

This moning I tried using a single High res mnitor that was turned OFF.

The system has 1 PATA interface with a 20Gb IDE drive used for the root file
system, and a DVD writer.
It also has several SATA interfaces, only one of which is used. This is
connected to a 350Gb (320Gb file system) storing /home.

I have since retried Kubuntu 7.04 and it works perfectly. I the tried
the i386 alternate installer CD and it also failed with the same
message..
I the tried the Alternate installer RC version of 7.10 and it produced the
following error that may help:

I'm also experiencing this problem with an Asus A8M notebook, with Edgy
& linux image 2.6.17-11-generic.
I have upgraded to the latest BIOS available (v215) and am still
experiencing the problem: "USB HC takeover failed!"
However, I have something else to add... I can get my USB mouse to work

Googling, I've found that the following will re-activate the mouse after
startup:
$ sudo rmmod ohci-hcd
$ sudo modprobe ohci-hcd no_handshake=1
This will re-activate the mouse.
I've tried adding the option line to /etc/modprobe.d/options:

if I download tar.gz2 file to my laptop running Arch Linux I still have
to manually download BloGTK's dependency libgtkhtml before BloGTK will
open. Would adding this dependency break BloGTK on Ubuntu systems? If
not please add as dependency.

I was in fact affected by this bug, which is definitely a duplicate of

worked great for me. I installed the first kernel, booted into it, had
dpkg try again and everything worked. Booting back into the regular
kernel was a snap
IMO it's rather lame on part of developers to assume that the user is too
stupid to understand a phrase "set hardware clock to UTC". Time zones are
taught in 4th grade or so. Any adult brave enough to use linux is surely
intelligent enough to understand that option.

clocks on Debian derivatives:
in Terminal "sudo gedit /etc/default/rcS"
set UTC=no & quit gedit
"sudo rm /etc/adjtime" to delete "bad" adjtime file
"hwclock --systohc --localtime" to create an improved adjtime file
And
As of today both kde-full and kde-standard are installable on
natty(development).

I have same issue ..turns out the brightness setting is not saved and is 0
every time I boot.
If I use the Fn + brightness Up key on every boot then I can see the screen

After trying too many things I found on the Internet that failed to
correct the issue, I had to use "Synaptic Package Manager" and do a
"Mark for Complete Removal" for both "ufw" and "gufw" then reinstall. It
