Ultra 40 I manage to hang on boot.
The system is running a fully patched Feisty desktop installation.

probably for 2+ years with regular updates.

Update : Just went onto a client NIS server that was running 14.10 and
checked the /etc/default/nis file and it was set to master, upgraded to
15.04 and it was changed to NISSERVER=false and all clients couldn't
bind.
Changed manually back to NISSERVER=master and all is OK.
Looks like the upgrade
2 weeks to go an this still has not even been assigned or triaged?

Sorry Joseph, I should have been clearer. It was with the mainline
kernel 3.12.0-999-generic #201310090426, I never gor around to trying
the rc5 kernel as you suggested - this is my company fileserver so I
cannot just do immediate changes (unless of course it has just crashed
and I am recovering).
I am experiencing this with around 7 Ubuntu (unity) desktop installs -

Now running 3.13.0-031300rc3-generic (from Mainline/Trusty RC) and have
had the longest continual uptime since moving to 3.11 (i.e. upgraded to
Ubuntu 13.10) - 8 days.
Will keep and eye on the situation, but I also have had backups running
and so far it looks stable.
Will continue to monitor.

I am moving about 150GB of data around and the system gives hard locks.
Nothing in the syslog, however I had a top running at failure and the

Essential I have 2 machines, an NFS server and single client - I
configure rhe client to use nfs v3 and it all works fine, i can
rsync1.5+TB of data without issue.
Change client to use nfs v4 and the system hangs - if i use TCP

Interestingly I have a Thecus NAS running a modified 2.6.33.7 kernel -
and it recognised and formatted one of the 3TB drives and I was able to
copy 300+GB of data to it without any errors.

Ok progress
I downloaded the latest main branch kernel (3.6.0-030600rc5-generic
#201209082035 SMP Sun Sep 9 00:36:02) and I no longer get bus resets!!!
It isn't all plain sailing, I did notice that the hot swappable function
didn't appear to work (when I inserted disks Linux did not detect it
Still present in 11.04, 11.10 and 12.04 (development) - also, changing
to Oracle Java 7 has no effect.
I can't ascertain if we are looking at a Java bug or a Java->Gnome bug.
i suspect the latter, as on other systems where i have different
printers installed I see correct default page size selecti

Is there an appropriate work around, patch or kernel for test with a
fix? I have several P55 Core i% systems with this NIC and they are
displaying this fault - crashes can be weekly or even daily.
At a push I can try the PPA, but these are production systems.
