I m convinced that I no longer face the issue.
However, after various simple tests I observe that I get best disk performance
in kernel 2.6.24-18-server.
I guess the UI responsiveness should be good in this kernel as well.
In other kernels, either my SATA drives are faster but IDE

Finally I discovered that the issue is due to the X driver
1. Xgl was taking 50% of CPU usage..was using intel driver
2. Switched to vesa driver. and everything is smooth including keyboard!!!
Hope this helps for ppl using onboard Intel Graphics GMA 3100 ..

Me too facing the same issue. Tired of logging off and logging on.
Somehow, got Vmware working in 2.6.26-5 kernel today. But looks like the
frequency of the issues increased after this. Earlier it was once or
twice in a day. Now, every few mins this is happenning.

I'm @ Home (Bangalore) and I had the oppurtunity to test this with the latest
kernel:
2.6.28-5-server #15-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jan 22 22:22:22 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
and Vmware Server 2.0 latest Build 122956.
I'm happy to say that all 64-bit OSes inside VmWare work as expected :)

Just to clarify.. I didnt try the Hardware reset steps.. Only this I did
was upgrade the VmWare server 2.0 to latest Build and also install the
latest kernel from Jaunty. I did a Suspend and Resume. Then I started
the 64 bit OSes, which worked as expected without throwing up any
strange errors.

to try the steps. Also, I have moved to VMware 2.0 so not sure whether the

I have the same problem.. with exaile as well as rhytmbox. on hardy 8.04
..but lesser often with rhythmbox.. and It is with mp3 as well as wma
files..no problem with mplayer audio or other video apps... So looks
like a gstreamer problem for me.. it occurs exactly as suggested by

Strangely, when I tried again now, it is booting perfectly. Log

Only changes that may have happenned:
1. I installed some updates . Not sure which all.
2. Enabled backports repository and install older headers for 2.6.22 as they
were missing. (though i had installed)
3. added an option

I'm yet to test with 2.6.24-14 kernel. But today I recieved an update
for 2.6.24-15-generic kernel and it is working perfectly. So I think
you can close this. BTW, just a quick question if it is relevant. Is
there a kernel in hardy for support of RAM > 64 ? I have newer custom
kernels

reboot..I performed the below steps with my 2 X 1 TB drives:
* created a new btrfs filesystem
mkfs.btrfs /dev/sdd1
* mounted it to /mnt/datanew
mount -t btrfs /dev/sdd1 /mnt/datanew
* copied over data f
I think the key is :

I was about to give up ..but I was trying older/newer kernels/ other
distros..
Tried multiple but one last try on Linux Mint opened the doors..
I was surprised to see the filesystem mounted fine with no errors..

As a workaround, I installed the 5.4 kernel using mainline and my raid1
btrfs volume seems to be mounting fine..The issue is present even with
latest mainline 5.13 kernel..so definitely more people should be seeing
this.. as and when probably they create/convert to raid 1..

I tried to update Filesystem type (from 42 SFS to 83), which messed one
of the disks (luckily) and had to rebuild the RAID.. post which I found
that this specific issue is now gone. I can mount fine on any kernel
version..

Works fine in 5.4.0-45-lowlatency.
