Well, the interval of update checks has been corrected. But for me it is still
annoying that I can't turn off this feature and check for update by myself.

After switching to new kernel the xserver won't start up. Ubuntu boots
after two failures (i think) in xserver recovery mode.
Reinstall nvidia-glx-new didn't work, also install nvidia-glx-new-envy
(including recompile of kernel-module)

Thanks for your response. With a freshly installed Intrepid (and all
upgrades) there has indeed been some development.
X11 still fails, but independently from whether the KVM switch is
attached or not. Also, the output from xrandr and get-edid is identical,

I have reinstalled jaunty to be sure because i'm using it since alpha 4.
For testing I used the official image of "ubuntu 8.10 alternate amd64"

The password field allows a maximum of 63 characters, else the 'Connect' button
is disabled
when entering a German umlaut (äöüÄÖÜ) those characters are counted
The problem seems to be with XVideo and the fglrx driver.
Workaround for now: use gstreamer instead of xine (install kaffeine-
gstreamer, then select it in kaffeine (settings - player engine)), run
gstreamer-properties from the terminal and change the default video
output from auto to "X Window Sy

Getting the same crash (mostly when scrolling) with a fresh install of
Gutsy Tribe 5 Kubuntu. My Gutsy Tribe 5 Ubuntu worked fine, so I think
it might be Kubuntu-specific.
Terminal Output before crash:
