A "quick and dirty" fix:
Download the xserver-xorg-input-evdev source and comment line 245 of the
source file named evdev_key.c (this is the line that calls
xf86OFRingBell). Recompile and install.
Voila, X with evedev keyboards is rock solid again. Now I have my multi-
terminal setup up and runni
I have the same problem in a system with a g400.
After updating to edgy I had to manually change the resolution in my
system to 1152x864 @ 75 Hz (and I see the flickering under this rate).
I have compiled the new Debian package to cleanly install in Ubuntu.
Anyone can download it here:

I have downloaded feisty today and I can confirm the bug is fixed.
Great.

Same here using dapper.
However I can get most of the keys working (like the arrow keys, Home,

Option "XkbModel" "evdev"
instead of "abnt2".
But there is at least one "dead" key, the key associated to the slash and the

I am now in edgy and the same problem persists. The key associated to
"/" is completely dead and some other keys are mapped to the wrong
characters.
If someone points me to a software that can present the evdev scancodes
on the console I may try to edit the

The same here. I am running edgy beta.
After manually applying the patch above my keyboard is working.

Why disable it? Just use gconf and recover the old (and good)

That is a major point. If there anyone can mimic the pop-up behavior
responsible for such decisions.

OK Leandro,
I just sent an email to Ayatana list with your mockup and presenting
the argument on the possible security flaw. Let us see how it goes.
However, I would not be very hopeful, it seems like people in
Canonical are convinced that the new behavior is good.

Actually, there is this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~darxus/+archive/bfsbfq
That have the BFS scheduler and BFQ I/O scheduler which may also play
an interesting role here. I have not tried it yet but I should try it
soon.
