I can’t heard the guitar sound.
Running fretsonfire -v I can read this :
PyOGG not found. OGG files will be fully decoded prior to playing; expect
absurd memory usage.
And later :

I found a workaround, I put 22050 as the frequency in the sound preferences.
I had this : « (W) Audio settings must match stereo 16 bits at 44100 Hz in
order to stream OGG files. » on the logs, but it run.

On the AMD64 I get the sources of the last stable (2.0.11) and compile them :

It seem’s that installing the last bios (send with windows 7) solve the problem
under packardbell too… but I can’t find the bios on packardbell site and one
send me the file but it’s for windows, I can’t install it from freedos (and
it’s too big).

I was about to make a bug report when I find this.
For me notification is a stack processus don’t mater async or sync.
But I can understand your thinking.
Maybe If you realy want to seperate sync and async you could choose different
aspect / place to follow the seperation.
