So there are two things why this happened:
a) Currently, in unity8 Alt and Alt+Gr are the same. There is a change
in Mir coming up which allows unity8 to fix that. That's still to be
done.
b) Unity8 has some workaround for delaying the alt presses in case
they'd be consumed by the shell (Alt+Tab)

either outside the screen on the right, or covered by other apps in
spread mode.
Now we're painting at max 2 apps when idle or 6 apps when in full spread
mode. Should improve this situation quite a bit.

Also, especially for the apps scope, it'd be great if you could diff the
query result against the previous one and not reset the model, but apply
the diff to it. That way the view could animate when an app shows up or
is removed instead of just destroying everything and rebuilding
everyhting.

So this indicates the QtMultimedia backend (libaalmediaplayer.so) is

Sure, combining information about input and output devices would be
possible to determine the current mode.
The other bugs linked in the description are bugs that need to be fixed
anyways. Not entirely related to the small screen. Sure, it is easier to
trigger them, the smaller the screen is, but
So far this is intentional and wanted by design. Also matches with
unity7. Anyhow, added ubuntu-ux to give input.

LauncherModel::applicationRemoved() is connected to
ApplicationManager::rowsAboutToBeRemoved().
The line that crashes is applicationManager->get(index)->appId().
Apparently get() returns a nullptr. However, in rowsAboutToBeRemoved()
items should still be valid so connected parties can handle it.
After digging for a while in QtMir's code, the code path described by
the stacktrace seems ok too.
One notable thing: according to errors.ubuntu.com the issue started
happening first on 4th of August, which is when a refactoring of the
code in question landed in qtmir.
