I can confirm that the Lotus Notes 8.5 for linux release does not
incorporate any supplemental GTKRC files.

Forcing the Update Manager to Apply Changes and install Evolution anyway

You can run VMWare Server in Gutsy if you download and manually install it.
There is some information in various forums about what worked for different
people.

The fix has come via the repositories for ubuntu. I don't know for sure what
package change resolved the issue, but I can confirm that the same install of
Lotus Notes that didn't work with New Wave theme before, now works flawlessly.
I suspect the issue was a Java/Eclipse compatibility issue
