I can confirm this bug with Ubuntu 9.04.
It's very annoying because tasque is made to speed up the work flow, but this
bug is slowing things down...

There is still the annoying PC beep at shut down, I stopped it with this
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf, then placed this – blacklist
pcspkrat – at the bottom and saved and rebooted. Beep gone.

I could reproduce this bug as described.
If you try to add the correct network with wpa to the network manager
with the edit buttons and type adhoc, it won't work, too.
So it's actually impossible to create or join(?) a secure adhoc network
with ubuntu because wep is not secure, you know.

I installed a kernel without the SATA PORT MULTIPLIER support
(CONFIG_SATA_PMP=n) and the bug is gone. System is very stable now and
works like a charm.

I'm using kubuntu desktop 7.10 and now want to download ubuntu server
7.10 with azureus and I've got the same problem, azureus is crashing. If
I delete logs-dir, it starts again, but If I double click on the ubuntu
torrent to view details, it crashes again and I have to delete logs/ to

I've even re-installed windows xp, deleting any partition and formatting
to NTFS in the process, 1 HDD, 1 Partition, then putting in the Live CD
and trying to install, and Select English, Next, Select City, Next,
Select U.S. English, Next, the Partitioner hangs at 53% of Scanning

I've just installed Hardy Beta with latest updates. In Gutsy suspend to ram
worked quite well.
It's very impractical, that it is not working anymore because it worked so well
and I use it really often.

Ubuntu (10.04) won't start my machines with apparmor enabled.
I had a normal /usr/bin/kvm entry in each machine.
After removing this entry, it works with apparmor, too.

Pidgin will not connect to icq and jabber behind a proxy if the proxy is

Battery info does WORK.
LCD off/wireless off/Brightness Keys does NOT WORK.
At least the Brightness Keys does not work is a regression because in
jaunty, they worked.

I can confirm this bug but could not confirm the workaround. The only
workaround that worked for me is to set the backlight control in the
bios to "user control" instead the default, because then the brightness
is not reduced on battery.
But if i reduce the backlight brightness before booting jaun
I can confirm this bug with karmic rc1.
It's a regression because in jaunty it worked very well.
Can please some one correct the title and add "[Karmic Regression]" to

I could reproduce this bug with a fresh karmic beta install + all updates.
But on my computer it consumes not only cpu, but also all memory (8 Gig) and
take the swap, after 3 Gig of swap I killed firefox.
After disabling the bindwood plugin via the safe mode feature, firefox works
again.

I can confirm the patch is working on 12.04.
For all the people out there trying to get it working as soon as possible I've
created a fixed package for Ubuntu 12.04 (32 Bit). (see attachment)

Affects me but I found a workaround : my keyboard is french and was set
as french _alternate_. French alternate inserts insecable spaces in
place of regular spaces with the space bar. Setting i back to regular
french layout did the trick.

I also think the current behavior and naming of variables is inconsistent.
While searching for the meaning of the variables I found this bug and I'm
shocked that it is open for such a long time but made such a little progress as
