Hmmm, I've always found it messy to create "Shortcuts" to folders using
nautilus.
For example, I like to have a "shortcut" to my home folder or to
"Filesystem" on the desktop...
I can middle-drag the folder there, and get a link.. or type ln -s [shortcut]
[folder]
But then I have a link, so when

My setup is Hardy 8.04.1 with updates and backports and pr
ok well I didn't mess with blacklisting modules...
I will do some more testing tonight to figure out which of the settings
actually made suspend work...
e.g. if NvAGP is not required and it was just the acpi-support changes or the
other way around and performance differences if i blacklist the m
NVidia notes this doesn't work.
I guess we'll have to wait for the code-base to improve before this
feature of redirected video works correctly.

well it appears I got too excited.
The option NvAGP "1" actually is equivalent to NvAGP "0"
unless you blacklist agpgart and nvidia_agp and the setting agp=off is passed
to the kernel..
if you set 1 then it uses 0 if agpgart is loaded
and a check using:
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
shows "S

a while, I hard-resetting it
Reconnected the drive after it booted, and I had 480Mbps!
Not sure if there is a safer way to reset the speed?

I had to edit the shell script that the teamspeak package installs to
get teamspeak to actually use PulseAudio:
open a terminal and enter:
sudo gedit /usr/bin/teamspeak
find line 6 or so:

alter it to:
padsp /usr/lib/teamspeak-client/teamspeak.real $@

It seems that it's supposed to open a right-pane to show the image
preview for the icon, but if you select a non-image file or folder, it
opens the preview quickly then closes it so the dialog gets wider?
I'm not a developer, but this issue exists for sure.

Update: I tried the the RC Live CD today... interesting... it worked the
first time perfectly... then i restarted and on the second time it
dropped to busy box so i restarted and tried it without the quiet and
splash options so i could see the output... other then the floppy failed
message alot (wh

hopefully this will be fixed before gutsy comes out... but i'm not going

I get the same problem trying to boot latest gutsy daily build live CD.

The fix to get it to boot it is add the parameter all_generic_ide using the

It shows incorrectly the timezones of say Brisbane and Melbourne both as
-2 while one of them should be -3 (because it's not in DST)... the
little analog clocks are correct however...

it attempts to play, but shows a corrupted display in the video window,
and cdrom0 in the playlist...
The progress bar doesn't go forward, and the corrupted display doesn't
change.. however, the application does not hang, you can still "Stop"
and open new file, or close, or whatever.

Hmm behaviour is mostly as expected with the "nv" open source driver.
the list shows 60 and 75 as refresh rate options... and 3d effects don't
work anymore.

Following the information posted in the 2 forum links I posted above:
The DynmaicTwinView option defaults to ON as of nvidia driver 96xx and
newer.
The effect of DynamicTwinView is (detailed in the driver README) such
that the refresh rates are reported incorrectly as id numbers instead of
hz val
Anyone hear any news on this one, it seems strange that OpenOffice
doesn't follow the rest of the desktop settings for font rendering..
Especially noticeable for me since I use sub-pixel with Slight hinting
mode, which is much different from default full hinting...

fixed in ubuntu?
It's really noticeable if you use "Slight" hinting for your GNOME
settings like I do.

workaround 1 to fix flickering: use metacity instead of compiz (turn desktop
effects off)
workaround 2 to fix fullscreen black-bars on widescreen video: use the keyboard
shortcut (F11) to enable fullscreen

This appears to effect compiz and totem combination only. (Although I've
seen compiz turned on and no flickering a couple times...)
In the end, I turned compiz off, it wasn't worth it for what I do,
watching movies, browsing the web etc.

i got the same "gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in
g_datalist_id_set_data_full()" while playing a movie in totem and
pressing the volume-down button to adjust the volume, the settings
daemon crashed, and restarted. (the volume didn't go down as normal, so
I held down the button)
