yeah this error seems to be somewhere in the new kernel (didn't happen in ubuntu 6.10)
the temporary fix for this, is that you can add the parameter all_generic_ide to the kernel when you're booting up At grub menu (on live CD) press F6 then move to the end of the line, and type all_generic_ide press enter the live CD should boot ok.. hopefully this will be fixed before gutsy comes out... but i'm not going to hold my breath... looks like we'll just have to use the workaround for now.
