To settle all confusion/questions, I simply tried grub (2.06-2ubuntu7.2)
and it wasn't able to recognize either a thin-lvm partition nor a thick
lvm partition. I did

re: #2 Yes the plan is to replace raspberrypi-userland with raspi-utils
in the seeds. At least initially raspberrypi-userland would drop out of
main and, if possible (I haven't check reverse-depends yet) be removed
entirely.

Thanks for the review! IMO we can drop overlaycheck from this package.
That is not a replacement for anything in raspberrypi-userland and would
not be useful to a large part of our user base.

We are experiencing similar issues after a kernel upgrade from 6.5.0-1025-azure
to 6.8.0-1017-azure.
Reversing the kernel back to 6.5.0 solves the issue and NFS is no longer
hanging.
