One curious thing I note, probably irrelevant, is that after resume,
there is lots of stuff recorded in the logs that seem to be about
suspending.. e.g. Freezing remaing tasks after the computer has
resumed...

So, this is fixed in artful-proposed, I can backport a patch if you find the
exact commit that fixes the issue.
Unfortunately changes are too huge to cherry-pick a fix, unless the original
author can tell us exactly where to look.
Hopefully my ppa can help you and we can forget this issue in som

If it's ASM1142 from comment #25, then it's different to ASM1042A (which
is used in TB16).
Also, ftrace won't do much here - as you can see the patch writes magic
values to registers, which only hardware vendor knows.

I am glad to say you we fixed that issue thanks to your post :)
The problem was we formatted the disk (sb5) using some tool from newer Ubuntu
version which put metadata_csum feature on it. And because using on Ubuntu
14.04 it had some
I can confirm that deleting the playcount file solves the problem.
However, it seems to reappear so one would have to delete the file
before every sync :-( Platform is Ubuntu 16.04, iPod touch.
