A small breakthrough today: I discovered the issue is not compiz, it's
just the unity plugin. The tearing stops when you disable the unity
plugin. The same is true for performance bug 861061.
Both issues seem to be caused by an unreasonable amount of overhead that
the unity plugin introduces into
mplayer in ubuntu is not affected by this issue because it has been
recompiled a long time ago.
Please consider reporting this bug to medibuntu, which is the actual
supplier of the package mentioned by the original reporter.

Hi Alessandro,
I've found the reason for this problem and fixed it by myself. It was a
misconfiguration in /etc/fstab. After setting the file system of /var to
"defaults" everything worked. So I overdid it a bit with hardening the
system. My mistake.
Nevertheless, thank you for your help so far.
I only have this problem on a machine upgraded to oneiric (the one still
on natty works fine), and I think my problem is that the new version of
GNOME session starts xbindkeys up before ssh-agent and gpg-agent, so
xbindkeys and processes it starts do not inherit the environment
variables. I get th

Thanks for the replay,
I already upgraded to 11.10. One thing i know for sure is that it is not
a hardware issue. Because the first time it worked. After a reboot i had
again the old issue. A few days ago i had also one boot that worked like
it should be i am unable to reproduce the working situat
I still suffer from this bug. Everything described in #56 is current.
