This is also affecting ath5k for me. Using the compat-wireless tarball
from 3/18/2011 didn't fix anything; reverting to 2.6.37 has fixed the
problem for me. I will try a compat-wireless from a different date soon.

It also happens with the global menu on KDE. So, it's a bug related to
every implementation of global menus.
On unity, killing unity-panel-service restores Audacity. The process
spawns again, so a quick fix for when Audacity hangs is to press Alt+f2
(latest builds only) and enter:
killall unity
although I got no feedback on this one at all, it seems these tabs have
now been fixed with everything I suggested. I assume then that the
problem was already known or documented in another Bug. Ether way I can
confirm this is fixed, although I think the Tabs are so dark now they
don't stand out (b
