I didn't find any problem at Maverick.
The ubuntu-restricted-addons package (suggested at the beginning of
installation) installs/recommends the icedtea plugin. It's a fork of Open JDK.
Sun JDK/JRE is now in the partner repository. I'll test it soon!

I have just tested it with the new VirtualBox 4.0.0 release which contains
fixes specifically for this problem and Unity now works.
Just enable 3D acceleration, install the guest editions and you are good to go.

Same problem here with ubuntu 10.10 and N230, NP-N230-JA01FR.
Hibernation works ok but not sleeping/lid closing. When opening/reactivating
laptop, power/wifi led lightens almost immediately but screen stays black
whatever is done. Could only force restart.

When I log in to Ubuntu Classic Desktop several "Starting File Manager"
boxes appear in my window list. The number varies from time to time, but
each one closes and new ones keep appearing.
