Just tried the live CD (released today) on the Lifebook S7010 and it
looks OK: I get a screen with a mouse pointer, so it seems the issue is
resolved. I'll upgrade the installation and post the results when
running from hard disk.

The 10.10 announcement went out and I note that this bug is not in the
list of known issues. Considering other things listed there I'd say this
one is well qualified. If I was running Lucid and upgraded, I'd be
pretty annoyed at running into this regression and having to spend
significant time look
So if I'm right and it is a hardware limitation that 3d doesn't work greater
than 2048 horizontal then it
still seems bad for compiz to crash rather than something having stopped you
first.

I did test 2.15.3 in Lucid-amd64 and observed (compared with 2.15.2):
there is no more any output from regularly run fsck available during boot on
the console. It just reports:
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2
2.15.2 showed for every single device something like this:

I'm not sure freshclam was ment to be run by a normal user. There's a
freshclam daemon, which runs in the background as 'clamav' user, and it
takes care of updating the database. If you run it as a normal user, it
won't have permissions to open the logfiles, to open the database
directory, etc.

The problem seems to exist in maverick still. I can connect to a FTP
server with whichever tool I like and everything works, except for that
nautilus will never list files. But, interestingly, it can create new
files and upload from my disk with no problems.

Bug seems to have completely gone in the release version of 10.10.
Seeing as it didn't appear to effect anyone else, might as well mark as
