I've got a similar issue, but not sure if it's exactly the same cause.
My Xorg.0.log file starts with the right idea and changes its mind at
the end.

after 2 days, regular (heavy) usage and several suspend/resume cycles, I
think I can safely say that the issue doesn't happen with the upstream
kernel; also, there seems to be way less swap usage than before (it
barely went over 600 MB, while in the same period the old kernel manages

Thanks for the feedback. I installed the latest version from the link
you provided with the same results. The system continues to seize
shortly after booting up and logging in. I repartitioned the hard
drive, checked it for bad sectors (didn't find any) and reinstalled
lucid and this time made a
mountall 2.15 is available as a backport to 10.04 LTS.
Try apt or synaptic.
Dev group is working on (at least) mountall 2.5, but I don't know where you'd
get that.
I don't know if either of these will help, but it may be worth a try at least
for 2.15

First time the boot hung and I had to power cycle, second time the

Four samples getting attached. First two are from Ubuntu 9.04 which

This is not the problem. Menu is in the top right of the screen. But computers
are still running. Shut down is not possile.
The only way is shutdown by the script. I do not know why.. One computer is not
in network. 4 others are in network (cifs, nfs).

That helped, thanks. I had always thought that also ld searches the
paths set in ld.so.conf, but it seems not to be the case.
Anyway, could the update-alternatives system be used somehow to
circumvent the "nonstandard" location of the driver by creating symlinks
to /usr/lib?
