When using the $http_proxy variable I've seen that apt-get does not work at all.
If I do "export http_proxy=localhost:" I get an error message telling me
"Could not connect to :80" and if I set this to "http://localhost:"; I
get an "open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)" error.
Could you please try again removing the .run package provided driver,
rename/move xorg.conf reboot and install nvidia binary drivers from
jockey? The newer versions of xorg don't need the xorg.conf and things
should work automagicly without it.

I was in the middle of a game of Glest when the sytem crashed and I was not
able to boot into the new kernel even after trying booting off the Ubuntu CD
and doing a Gparted check. I had to boot into 2.6.31 and remove 2.6.32 via

I opened Jockey and installed the driver and everything worked fine
(except I accidentally chose 173 instead of 190)
xorg.conf was automagically created - not by n

Maybe it's a bug but if someone has a faulty RAM modules (like e.g.
myself) then during installation should be an information about it. As I
said earlier the message tripped me up and I was pretty sure that
something is wrong with my CD/DVD drive and/or Hard Drive :)

So far most everyone on this topic has been able to overcome the error by
removing RAM sticks and replacing them after installation completes.
Also, on my PC, I successfully installed other distros as well as Windows
without problem. Only Ubuntu hangs. So it seems like a bug. But possibly a

As i was upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 ( kernel 2.6.31-19 ), i had the same
problem with my :Zolid Xpert TV7134 card.
Thanks to youre solution of changing the card id ( to AVerMedia Cardbus
TV/Radio (E501R) ), i've managed to get te card working again!!! Even better:
the audio from the card stops

Can confirm this happening on Karmic, too (Toshiba Tecra r10-14c). I
have attached related dmesg log and xorg log files.
Interesting things to note:
1) This was happening for me under Jaunty from the clean installation. But,
