I have not applied the above work around. I have had the same issue

your error_log and this filter turns the incoming PDF into PostScript
with the help of Poppler's pdftops command line utility.

1) the touchpad is not working on boot with 50% probability. works always after
"SHMConfig" "true" added to xorg.conf
2) sometimes the keyboard AND the touchpad both do not work. With 5-10%

I got the same problem in Karmic : icons disappear from the desktop, and right
click is not active, even if everything is fine when I log in.
It may have happened when I changed the theme from Human to DarkRoom. I
returned to Human, let's see if it changes something.
