I've disabled pulseaudio because it has huge problems working with
VirtualBox and gone back to ALSA.
Is there an applet equivalent in the Karmic repos to provide volume
control using ALSA? I'm currently using gnome-alsamixer but it's big
and bulky.

After upgrading to Karmic I could use the free driver for my Broadcom
wifi card. That means wl is not in use anymore
("sudo rmmod wl" gives output "ERROR: Module wl does not exist in
/proc/modules")
So I think we may conclude that it seems not to be related to wl.

Great, now that this still exists in Karmic, let's get it through for
Lucid, shall we?
As stated above, it does seem like a gnome-screensaver regression (since
pre-Jaunty, it used notification-daemon), so a patch to gnome-
screensaver would be easy to implement (if I knew how, I'd do it).

Hello, I use Ubuntu 9.10 and I have this also, something is wrong with
the Pi character in page 2. With Xpdf/Adobe Reader you could read it. I
think its a poppler bug because epdfview uses poppler and have the same
issue. Thanks
