As stated above, it does seem like a gnome-screensaver regression (since pre-Jaunty, it used notification-daemon), so a patch to gnome- screensaver would be easy to implement (if I knew how, I'd do it). indicator-applet is on by default, why don't we just use that to link to the tomboy notes app (as mentioned previously)?
