is a 16GB SD Card. I formated that drive as ext3 (and tried ext4 also) and gave

There is no shockwave plugin for Linux. Maybe you're thinking about the
open source flash player which is not as good as the adobe one. Since

okay, ulimit -n has nothing to do with this bug. I am so sorry. I just
had a typo in my config file. uname -n is now working for me...
But the rest remains the same. ulimit -t 1 does not work on my kernel as
well.

I can confirm that the card-reader might have some connection (direct or
otherwise) with the difficulties: on my XP machine, I clicked on "safely
remove hardware" for the built-in card reader, and the error message
failed to appear. A restart (to reconnect the card reader) and the error

I removed .gnome* and .gconf* from my homedir to make gnome-settings-daemon
work again.
Not sure I had to remove all of them, (just mv, ok) but now it works, and seems
to be blazingly fast compared to what it was before...
