I fixed the problem by installing a sound card and bypassing the
installed chip. I have heard that some chips are not really audio
chips, instead they use Windows itself for sound... so no Windows no
sound.

This suspend/resume problem seems entirely reproducible, the computer is
unable to resume every time. This is with Jaunty installed from Alpha 5
and up-to-date. Resume worked fine in Intrepid and Hardy, although I do
remember Intrepid had an intermittent problem for a while.

This is issue still exists for me on Intrepid. Scrolling on the
secondary rotated display gets X to 100% cpu and even audio starts
