After the last kernel upgrade, suspend is broken in my Macbook 1,1, in

Well there seems to be a lot of confusion about this. I don't think my
problem is 64 bit related, because, essentially, I don't have a 64 bit
CPU, so it would surprise me a little if Ubuntu installed a 64 bit
version of Java on my machine.

An alternative to Trampas's fix is to create a file called
/etc/pm/config.d/madwifi-fix (exact filename doesn't matter), with the
following contents:

I think what happend here is that VIA just released a new revision and
felt about bumping the version number.
I don't think this can be the real problem, infact I first encountered this
issue in intrepid, so I installed back ubuntu 8.04 and everything worked just
fine, then I upgraded to intrepi
The following workaround fixed this problem for me, for 64-bit Intrepid
on the CQ50-110EM laptop. It's inspired by Bogs' previous post, but
avoids the need for building madwifi drivers
1) Download the alternative installation CD image for 64-bit intrepid
(e.g. from http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.10

I think it's changed -- just tested it in 8.10. On a clean install, I
get warnings on the first run, and can't produce plot output. But it
seems to work on the second run OK. I tried deleting the .gretlrc file
and the directory .gretl, and I get the same errors again. So there is
something missing

Ok, perhaps the Nautilus window shouldn't open but this wasn't clear in
the original description. There appears to be 2 separate issues then:
1) The Nautilus window opens
2) The window appears white
