It might be worth noting that if you have ALSA Intel HDA (either within
the kernel at compilation time or via sysfs) set to aggressive
powersaving (e.g. after two seconds) then this problem will also go

I just had the same problem while running intrepid alpha 5 on amd64. As
far as I know the only things changed since the last normal boot were
that I removed virtualbox and an old kernel image. I didn't use suspend
or sleep. Now it happens on every boot.
sudo update-initramfs -u did fix the problem

I just tried the liveCD of the Intrepid Alpha 5. No joy, Leap still does not
work.
The error messages are a bit different, though - dmesg reports 'authenticating'
*3, then I get an authentication timed out message (sorry, no log to post here).

Thanks for your hard work and the temporary workaround with the non-xcb

Unfortunately the problem is real and hurting and needs a proper fix for
Hardy. I have come across a number of trusted old applications which
fail in a similar way when running with the xcb based libx11 un
I have the same problem on a HP Compaq 8510p. I found it strange that
the default settings were to "Do nothing" when battery power is
critically low, so I changed it to "Hibernate".
Unfortunately this does not work, it just keeps going until the battery
is drained.

I have 4GB of Ram so Nautilus is not crashing but it runs extremely slow
(can take minutes to list directory contents) when listing large
directories on my ntfs usb external drives as well as my internal ext3

Just to be more explicit, the 2.6.22 kernel that was standard on Gutsy
worked with the same hardware, so this is a regression introduced by
Hardy.

1: It was not an avi video file. It was a 3GP file (recorded from a
SonyEricsson K810i mobile phone)
2: The bug is easily reproducable.
3: Even though I have installed digikam-dbgsym package with debug symbols, I
get this message, when trying to view the bac
