I am also having this problem using Hardy 64bit. I have 4GB of Ram so Nautilus is not crashing but it runs extremely slow (can take minutes to list directory contents) when listing large directories on my ntfs usb external drives as well as my internal ext3 drive.
Currently Nautilus is using up 1.5GB of memory. I will attempt to obtain a backtrace within the next few days and post.
