Roger, you don't need to wait for Intrepid. Just upgrade to the current
hardy-proposed package. You have to enable "proposed updates" for that.
In Ubuntu it is System -> Administration -> Software Sources -> Updates.
I don't know where it is in Xubuntu, but it should be in a similar
place.

"Zero configuration" would mean that it requires "zero configuration",
so you are wrong.
This is btw. not against avahi or any other specific program but about a
missing feature which could IMHO easily be implemented using
technologies already shipping with Ubuntu. It is about configuration.

Ah, it's dep-waiting on libasio-dev, which did not get promoted because
the latest version failed to build in intrepid. I promoted the older
asio binaries now, so that abiword should build now. Howver, the asio
problem needs to be fixed.

Okay. How do I find out which package would be relevant? I am basically
thinking of ways of syncing it with evolution.
Wammu looks like the solution for backup. By some technical reason I do
not know, however, launchpad does not allow filing it against wammu.

This is not a nautilus bug. I have the same problem in Hardy XUBUNTU
which uses Thunar rather than Nautilus. But, it does use the gvfs as
far as I know. Whereas, KUBUNTU does not make use of gvfs and is not
afflicted with this problem.

this bug was present when i tried to do an dist-upgrade from hardy to
intrepid by replacing in apt/sources.list
but with upgrade manager upgrade worked until the end

I had a similar problem on 8.04.
Following on from Venkatesh's observations, I thought I'd try:
cd /var/cache/apt-proxy
sudo find . -name Packages.bz2 -exec bunzip2 -f {} \;
I also had to restart apt-proxy to pick up my config changes:
sudo /etc/init.d/apt-proxy restart
Only then did it import
