I have the "unkillable process" problem without fuse or totem being
involved, on a headless server install, not running X.
Was installing sbcl (sudo apt-get install sbcl) inside a screen(1)
session and now the apt process and the launched sbcl (which is trying
to generate some cache or something)
Apparently cd and dvd drives are now treated like network interfaces:
they have their own 75-persistent* udev rule. So the best thing to do
is just remove all entries on /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules
and reboot. This should fix all the links.

The newfs_hfs command is not part of the hfsprogs package, and actually
I don't think you can find it in Ubuntu packages: it's from Apple's
HFS+. So the bug is not from Ubuntu, I close it.

which displays the warning listed there

1) find out how your panels are called. its the last part of the strings you
get if you run:
gconftool-2 --all-dirs /apps/panel/toplevels
2) run the following script. pass top/bottom/left/right and the names of

I have the same problem, and the reason (in my case) is not the usefree
option, since I don't have. My installation was a Feisty, upgraded to
Gutsy and now Hardy. The automount stopped working after upgrading to
Hardy.
However, I noticed, that if I disable networking via the nm-applet,
automountin
some usb cards NEED asoundrc, otherwise ALSA has no clue how to deal with it.
my alesis io|2 worked just with asound configured under ubuntu gutsy but under
hardy it goes without.

merely suggesting an alternative until Gnome gets fixed. And I have
filed bugs for all the problems I'm having. Reading blogs on the
subject, there are several people having problems with Nautilus
crashing. Some of those people
I noticed that dmraid creates the /dev/mapper/via_bfdbdagceh.dm-tmp file and
renames it, but later it deletes it again. I don't know why.
If there is anything I can test, please let me know.

kubuntu 8.04 kernel 2.6.24-15. I am running a Creative Sound Blaster
