That's the second graphics cards at PCI:3:0:0. The first is as

I have upgraded Xubuntu from 7.10 to 8.04, and I occasionally have the
same problem. I need to killall gdm to shut down the X server from a
normal terminal (CTRL+ALT 1), or simply do a sudo reboot. As it doesn't
happen 100% of the time, I suspect that the suspend mode has something
to do with it.

Strangely the process of upgrading failed because it couldn't open a
display and it shouldn't.
What method did you use to upgrade ?
Can you open a terminal and retry
sudo apt-get install ibritish language-support-writing-en
If that fails, can you please post the output.

My vanilla (straight from kernel repository, no patches) 2.6.25 kernel crashed
last night.
Same symptoms as Ubuntu's 2.6.24-16.
This issue does not appear related to any custom Ubuntu patches.
