I am using the 2d drivers. Did you check to make sure you have the latest nvdia drivers installed from the restricted section? a GeForce 2 card would need to use the legacy drivers.
This I suppose is for - if I want 3D. The 3D drivers for nvidia are broken and after email them so many times nvidia bluntly refuses to do anything about this. Also I tried the kubuntu hardy cd yesterday and had the same problem. Only thing was I was able to set the monitor as 1024x768 Generic monitor and then change the resolution to 1024x768 - and it worked fine. I could not find the options to change tne monitor settings in the hardy version of gnome. I will look for this more throughly this weekend and report back. Btw kudos to Ubuntu team. I am using hardy at my office machine and it works great.
