OK, I've done a bit of testing now. Mounting with "sshfs -s" does seem
to work, I have yet to see any crashes like that. The other don't seem
to help, though; I've tried with all of them together, and I still got
crashes (and it works vry slow), so I'm pretty sure multi-threading
is to blame.

The problem is fixed in Hardy. Actually the channel is still unmuted on
resume, but the sliders stay at the bottom and so there is no more
microphone sound from the speakers, greatly reducing the annoyment.

I just realized the screen shot was not clear. Here it is attached again.
Also you will notice that the GUI of nautilus-share only allows guest access
and read-write for everyone else.
This implies that the user creating the share should have read-write by
default, which in my case is not true,
When I browsed to the share in Vista, I was prompted for a user name and
password. I entered my Ubuntu user name and password which was
authenticated. I was then presented with the contents of the shared
folder. But as I said before, my access was read-only not read-write.

I should add that since in Hebrew and in other non European languages
this bug effects all the text, not just isolated letters. This means

Which goes from "true" to "false" to "true" as expected from your
