After a longer period of testing of the workaround, I experienced
that the system still occasionally hangs when running 3D apps, even having just
one screen.
Also Xv playback is still unusable, when compiz enabled. Although slow
text scrolling is completely resolved.
I have to fall back to XAA.
First, let's rule out a botched dist-upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04. In

I hope this will get fixed soon as I have no working CD-drives.

this bug is no longer getting any attention, imo its severity should be
set to something higher than "low": what's worse this affects other
applications as well since unless i'm mistaken evince relies on gnome-

I tried everything in this thread, with no success.
I am running Gutsy and nVidia GeForce 7300LE.
If I switch to tty, I only have one line stating: "Loading, please
wait...". Then when I come back to tty-7 I have a black screen and
nothing working. Computer freezes and I have to hard switch off.
I experience this too, on both my main PC and laptop. It's a real pain.
In both cases, the locale is set to UK, and the year part of the date
field is only two digits long.
Evolution version is 2.12.1
Ubuntu version is 7.10 (gutsy)
Kernel is 2.6.22-14-generic
Gnome version is 2.20.1

the /lib/firmware/haup-ir-blaster.bin in order for the remote (PVR-150)
to work at all.

I'm not sure if my system uses AWN, but I don't think so. How can I find
out? Anyway, the symptoms are the same: all icons disappear and I have
to restart the X-session. Unfortunately I still haven't found a
solution.
